Overview and Checklist

Before every race we enter, we go through a very thorough period of preparation during which we essentially re-build
the car from the ground up.  We begin by cleaning the car and then disassemble it so that we can inspect all the high
stress components effectively.  All the trailing arms, spindles, spring plates, CV's, torsion bars and axles are sent out
to be "Magnaflux" inspected.  This gives us an immediate indication of problems on many of the parts, but some parts are difficult to inspect effectively (front trailing arms, axles and torsion bars).  For those parts, we count mileage and simply rotate them out of service at "X" miles.  We do that because those parts can "hide" defects from conventional NDT (Non-Destructive Test) methods and the cost of a part failure can be significant (not just the cost of that part; there could be other consequences, including total loss of the car).   We just consider those parts "life limited" and add them to our spares stock when they reach the end of their "race part" life.  The engine and transaxle are removed and sent to their respective overhaul shops (Paradise Motorsports and Power Box) for inspection (they typically don't really need anything but we don't take chances on them due to the high price of a failure during a race - we run the SCORE desert race series and they are not for the faint of wallet......).

Once everything is inspected/repaired/replaced, we then begin the reassembly process using all new hardware.  When the car is reassembled, we can then go through a "setup" procedure; setting torsion bar pre-load to get the ride height we want, adjusting the alignment, etc..  Once that's complete we pre-oil the engine to avoid a "dry" first start then fill the fuel cell in preparation for the first test drive around our shop.  We'll drive the car around for a few minutes, then check for leaks and loose fittings/fasteners.  If all goes well, we're now ready for a "test/tune" session out in the desert;  There, we'll do a thorough "shakedown" to verify that everything still works and is set the way we want  it.  At that point, the car is ready to race!
